Retired Police Chief Dan Montgomery, MS is a 53-year police veteran who is the owner and chief executive officer of Professional Police & Public Safety Consulting, LLC, located in Arvada, Colorado. Chief Montgomery started his police career in 1962 as a campus police officer at San Jose City College, San Jose, California. He then moved on to the Los Gatos, California Police Department where he served from 1964 to 1971, attaining the rank of police sergeant. He was then recruited and went to work for the Lakewood, Colorado Police Department from 1971 to 1982, achieving the rank of police captain. He then became the chief of police in Westminster, Colorado where he served with distinction for 25 years before retiring in 2007. He also served as an interim-part time chief of police in Lochbuie, Colorado for nearly a year in 2010.
Chief Montgomery began his consulting and police practices business in 1985 doing police consulting on a part-time basis, and after he retired, he became the owner and chief executive officer for his business, Professional Police & Public Safety Consulting, LLC, located in Arvada, Colorado. His business is founded on the values of service, pride, integrity, responsibility, innovation and teamwork, the same values that underscored his 53-year professional career in the police and public safety arena.
Chief Montgomery is a police, public safety and security expert and has qualified many times as an expert witness in the United States District Court in Denver, Colorado, as well as the United States District Court in Las Cruces, New Mexico. He has also qualified as an expert witness in the Jefferson County District Court, the Denver County District Court, the La Plata County District Court and the Lake County District Court. He has also been certified as an expert witness in police personnel matters before several personnel boards and by the State of Colorado.
Additionally, Chief Montgomery does work for other police departments and Government entities conducting internal affairs investigations and policy/procedure and evidence audits.
Chief Montgomery has been involved as a police practices expert and consultant in cases in California, Colorado, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Minnesota, Montana, New Mexico, New York, Oklahoma, Utah, and Wyoming. He is a certified force science analyst having been certified by the Force Science Institute at the Minnesota State University - Mankato, and is also a certified instructor in the management of excited delirium and in-custody deaths, having been certified by the Institute for the Prevention of In-Custody Deaths. Montgomery has prior police certifications in arrest control tactics, pressure point control tactics, Taser, OC Spray, batons, police pursuit driving including PIT maneuvers, and was a competition shooter on the California Competition Shooting Circuit for many years achieving the ranking of expert and master.
